THE KAKU

About

The Kaku is a venture that aims to fill the gap left by legacy media houses located in the power corridors of the country, and the local media establishments that cover daily events. While the legacy media might give coverage to some events in the rooster neck, they fail in giving this turbulent and strategic region its fair due. Local media establishments on the other hand have either veered in excess along the lines of sensationalism, or have become victims of their piety. A fourth-estate on shaky foundations, unable to verify or question anything of importance, has been a major factor that has furthered overwhelming mismanagement and squalor in the region. Our aim is to provide a semblance of proper discourse on issues such as adivasi and dalit rights, confluence of histories, the plight of labour, environmental concerns and economy. Rather than being a conveyor of news bulletins, we see our value in hosting opinions and articles that are relevant and researched.

Literature is also an integral part of this project. At the moment we only have access to Nepali literature, be it in terms of copyrights or contributors, so that is what we will feature in our website. We hope to work with other adivasi and dalit communities in the region to publish their literature in the near future.

We have envisioned a better and bigger form of the website with many projects lined up such as podcasts, satire shows, audio books, hosting historical documents and content from contemporary creators. Give us some time and support.
